No Smoking Day
2012 is Activity Year with the Olympics taking place in London. What better time for smokers to start a fresh, healthy lifestyle and actively make changes around bad habits like smoking! 2012 is also a Leap Year so take advantage of the two week window between 29th February (Leap Day) and 14th March (No Smoking Day) to prepare to quit by contacting one of Bexley's excellent Stop Smoking Advisors. The theme for this year's No Smoking Day campaign is to "Take the Leap" .... towards a smokefree future. Banners and posters show either a male or female smiling broadly as they leapfrog over a cigarette butt. This represents how happy smokers report feeling when they take back control over their lives. The campaign theme strives to be empowering, supportive and positive. Banners will be on display in your local GP practice and other health settings across the borough to remind you to sign up for support to quit and make an olympian effort to quit smoking for the final time this No Smoking Day.
No Smoking Day merged with the British Heart Foundation at the end of last year so this year's campaign will be bigger and better. In recognition, Bexley Stop Smoking Service have produced hundreds of Valentine's Hearts with the message Love Your Heart illustrating the link between heart disease and smoking and to promote No Smoking Day - Wednesday 14 March.
The core team will be promoting No Smoking Day on the Mobile Quit Bus outside Morrisons Supermarket in Erith every Wednesday between 9.30 am and 1.30 pm. They are also up at the Clocktower every Saturday on board the Bus between 10 am and 2 pm. Look out for a very special appearance and happening event on Saturday 3 March at Bexleyheath Clock Tower near the Quit Bus!
We are also looking for a volunteer to take the No Smoking Day challenge to sign up to quit with us on Leap Day down at Erith Morrison. Speak to the core team on the Quit Bus if you are interested in taking part.
